Meet Sagen Cocklin
They/She
Sagen came out as trans in 2015 and has spent years helping others to navigate the social and emotional obstacles that can come with transition. She knows first hand how hard fought and hard won understanding one's own identity can be and the toll it can take trying to figure out how to traverse the various aspects of transition without anyone to guide them. Starting in 2022, they have assisted in the development and running of two Trans Self-Compassion workshops. They have taken this knowledge and works to help everyone find ways to be a little more gentle with themselves.
Sagen finished her PhD program in Physics in 2020 at University of Illinois at Chicago knowing she needed to change trajectories. During her time in graduate school, she also dove headfirst into labor activism, working for the Graduate Employee Organization as a bargaining committee member and later as union co-president. Towards the end of this time in school, the combined demands from work and activism, along with a mismatch between Sagen and her environment lead to her burning out. As a result, she has spent the years since finding ways to recover from burnout, and prevent it from happening again. This knowledge and her work at UIC helps her support and empathize with you. Her experience juggling the expectations of research and writing, teaching, and leading a union gives her insight and experience in finding the ways to navigate busy and complex lives that work for each individual. She has instrumental experience in guiding students, workers and activists to spaces that allow for safety and support.
Meet Victoria Cocklin
she/her
Victoria Cocklin has held her LPC since 1998, owns her own business, and a few rental properties. She provides a safe environment to explore corrective attachment experiences which allow for better personal, familial and work relationships. She is a member of WPATH, has trauma certifications and extensive education in pathological relationships. Her expertise is in attachment, trauma, gender studies and recovery from abusive relationships. She continues to provide clinical work however, here within The Collective her work is a teaching or coaching model.
Her 27 years of experience as a clinician informs the skills that she brings to coaching. Trauma can be misunderstood. Trauma lives in our media, our neighborhoods, families and work environments. Trauma happens on a micro and macro level. It can also be chronic and cumulative. And on a daily basis our transgender, non binary and gender expansive friends, loved ones and community members suffer from these aggressions. I am here to welcome ALL those who have suffered the effects of trauma. You are safe here.

Our Story
Over the past few years Victoria’s focus has shifted from traditional psychotherapy to online psychotherapy and complementary modalities including Somatic Work, TRE and Wellness Coaching. The pandemic changed everything with the way the world related to each other and how I related to the world. This shift happened as she struggled with her own need for connectedness and my ability to care for her health. She found wellness by embracing alternative methods of healing as well as new ways of connecting with others. As she found her balance, she realized she no longer wanted to work in the traditional sense as a psychotherapist only.
Sagen spent years and countless hours working and achieving her PhD in physics. But, at what cost? Quite possibly her physical health and emotional well being. Her skill set took her around the world to do research in Italy and Australia. Towards the end she was heavily involved with teaching as well as working with the graduate employee union to create change for the student body at The University of Illinois at Chicago. Being exposed to working with and for change allowed her to see she wanted something very different. Although she did complete her PhD in Physics she has made a pivotal change to work with others in a capacity that would be helpful and enriching.
Being separated for over a year because of the pandemic the mother daughter duo of the Cocklin Collective was born! It is exciting to work together in this collaborative way and now we are bringing our skills to you. Our intention is to provide high quality specific care through coaching, mentoring, consulting and tutoring. Growth is a challenging and rewarding process. Especially when you start to see changes. But, it can also be taxing and frustrating.
We've seen people get excited about life again as they practice the new skills and let go of beliefs that no longer serve them. And within The Collective you will find the support, guidance and the tools to assist you whether that is personal tutoring, mentoring, workbooks designed to create corrective skills or specific coaching models or classes. We are connective and skills based. Drop us a line to see if we are a fit for what you are looking for.
Working with Sagen throughout the job hunting process has been crucial to me landing a new job. Her support and guidance helped me to see my true potential and gave me the confidence to explore areas outside my comfort zone.
